Updates, Rumours and General Comment
Council still not dealt with problem trees.
The council refuse to accept that there is a problem with overgrown trees on High Bank.
The council say the trees will shed branches naturally and dont need any cutting back.
If this is what light gusty winds can do, I hope that the council acknowledge the problem faced by local residents
before we get any strong winds.
Builders raise roof at Tesco.
The new 60,000 square feet Tesco building in Gorton is on target and is due to open
later this year.
Tesco have now started to recruit in the local area.
The company handling Tesco press releases are now aware of Gortonnews and will be
offering releases soon..
Police Constable Mick Regan
Gorton News wishes police constable Mick Regan a speedy recovery. PC Regan has
worked in Gorton and is well respected by the local community; he was assaulted
in Manchester city centre during the UEFA cup final disturbances.
Safe for Now
The good news is…
The Gorton News website is safe for another year and thanks to Gorton Community
Association, it may now even be possible to re-launch the newsletter as Gorton
Community Association have allowed Gorton News the use of a room in the community
centre on Highmead Streeet.
The Newsletter has always been a community project run for the community by volunteers
from the community and it will hopefully remain a Community asset. To get the newsletter
off the ground will require a lot of hard work and help, so if you are interested in
volunteering or advertising, please drop me a line.
Like Gorton the website will keep on evolving. It has been given a makeover and now has
a sports section added, so if you have a local team and want your fixtures and results
displaying, this is the place to have them on show.
I recently attended a speedway meeting at Belle Vue. This was the first time I had
ever attended a speedway race and I left the Belle Vue Stadium wondering why don't
more people support this sport. Belle Vue Aces are probably the most famous speedway
team in the world and this year they are celebrating their 80th year. If you need a
reason to go and give them your support, they are probably one of the only original
bits of Gorton's heritage left. You can brush up on the rule of speedway as well as
check out fixtures and results in our new Sports section.
