Finally they are beginning to cotton on.. Gorton is here and we're doing great things, which is why, all of a sudden there seems to be a lot of attention pointed our way. The obvious high profile of projects like the Monastery has always had the effect of getting Gorton onto the map, but it is the upsurge of things going on in the community in general which seem to have various agencies taking a hard look in our direction. In this issue you will find details of the 'Save the Tub' campaign's latest event (page 13). The Gorton Wardens service was launched last month (see page 5), The Central PCT have been working with the Forum and members of the community to gather information on wider health issues. Now there is the new Gorton and Abbey Hey project which will be working within the area, the Private Housing Initiative which has just been launched, Early years and Play are conducting research in the area and there is a new Anti Smoking initiative which is concentrating solely on the Gorton Area. Also inside you will see that Trinity Baptist Church on Wellington St. is going to undergo a massive rebuilding, and will provide community facilities as well. Finally, bids have been submitted to build not one, but two UK Online Centres in Gorton, one in Gorton North and one in Gorton South. These will provide the opportunity for people from all sections of the community to gain access to learning should they want to. All of these things are happening because they can succeed here, because people in the community are willing to work towards that success. So keep up the good work and let's see if we can't get even more things moving. If you need any information about any of the things mentioned here, or want to help out in any way, contact the Forum, who have been working with all the projects mentioned.
